Join us in Düsseldorf for a curated two-night pre-cruise extension designed to ease jet lag, immerse you in German culture, and arrive at the river refreshed and ready.

We’ll travel comfortably to Mainz aboard Germany’s high-speed ICE rail for a day rich in history and inspiration. At the Gutenberg Museum, we’ll stand in the city where movable-type printing changed the world — seeing original Gutenberg Bibles and learning how one invention reshaped communication, culture, and exploration. It’s the kind of context that deepens everything we’ll experience along the river.

We’ll also step into St. Stephen’s Church, where Marc Chagall’s luminous blue stained-glass windows fill the space with light and quiet reflection. It’s a powerful, beautiful moment — one that often becomes a favorite memory of the extension.

The next day, we’ll experience the local character through a guided Altbier brewery walk in the historic Old Town. It’s relaxed, social, and distinctly regional — the perfect way to connect with both the culture and one another before embarkation aboard the Viva One.

Guests arrive at Düsseldorf Airport and transfer to our hotel. After check-in, the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax, explore the Rhine promenade, or stroll through Düsseldorf’s historic Old Town (Altstadt).

After breakfast, we depart for Mainz via Germany’s efficient high-speed ICE rail service (approximately 2 hours each way).

In Mainz, we enjoy a full-day guided cultural experience including:

• Visit to the Gutenberg Museum, home to original Gutenberg Bibles and exhibits detailing the invention of movable-type printing.

• Guided visit to St. Stephen’s Church, featuring Marc Chagall’s striking blue stained-glass windows.

• Walking tour of Mainz’s historic Old Town.

Late afternoon return to Düsseldorf by rail.

We gather for a guided exploration of Düsseldorf’s historic brewing tradition. This immersive Old Town experience includes tastings at classic local breweries and an introduction to the region’s iconic Altbier culture.
