About this trip

This itinerary stands beautifully on its own and pairs seamlessly with our Komodo dive expedition. With nonstop flights from major U.S. gateways into Tokyo, Japan is surprisingly easy to reach. Whether you’re extending your journey before Komodo or stopping on the way home, this experience turns transit into something extraordinary.

Instead of simply passing through, we invite you to immerse yourself. Over seven days, we explore the contrasts that define Japan — from the neon energy of Tokyo to the tranquil beauty of Mt. Fuji and the timeless elegance of Kyoto.

In Tokyo, ancient temples rise beside futuristic skylines. We walk beneath the iconic gates of Senso-ji, explore vibrant market streets, and step into the immersive world of teamLab’s digital art before seeing the ancient treasures of the Tokyo National Museum. That first evening, we gather for a lively welcome dinner featuring hot pot and a live sumo cultural experience — a bold and memorable introduction to Japan.

We then board the legendary bullet train toward Mt. Fuji for an overnight stay at a traditional onsen ryokan. Slip into a yukata robe, soak in mineral hot springs, and enjoy a beautifully prepared seasonal dinner with lake and mountain views before continuing west.

In Nara and Kyoto, the pace shifts. Deer roam freely through historic parklands, wooden streets lead to centuries-old districts, and we experience a private tea ceremony led by a tea master. One of the most memorable evenings unfolds in Gion, where we enjoy a geisha dinner and performance designed exclusively for our group. Along the way, we explore Kyoto’s bamboo groves, panoramic viewpoints, and preserved neighborhoods, revealing both the iconic and the deeply authentic sides of Japan.

If you’re already crossing the Pacific, make it count. Join us in Japan and turn a travel day into an unforgettable cultural adventure.
