Notable Anilao Dive Sites

Secret Bay

Often considered one of Anilao's premier macro sites, Secret Bay is a gently sloping black sand and rubble habitat that consistently rewards patient divers. The site is famous for frogfish, mimic octopus, blue-ringed octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, seahorses, snake eels, ghost pipefish, and an incredible diversity of nudibranchs. Every dive presents the possibility of discovering something new, making it a favorite among photographers.

Twin Rocks

Twin Rocks is one of Anilao's signature reef dives and an excellent introduction to the area's healthy coral ecosystem. Two submerged pinnacles rise from the sandy bottom, covered with colorful soft corals, sea fans, and anemones. Schools of anthias, damselfish, butterflyfish, and fusiliers surround the reef while octopus, frogfish, turtles, and a variety of reef critters are regularly encountered.

Arthur's Rock

Located directly in front of Crystal Blue Resort, Arthur's Rock is a protected marine sanctuary that offers beautiful coral growth and abundant reef life. This site is often used for check dives but quickly proves to be much more, with healthy hard corals, schooling fish, nudibranchs, turtles, and occasional frogfish hiding among the reef. Night dives here are especially productive.

Mainit Point

One of Anilao's premier drift dives, Mainit Point features dramatic walls, rocky outcroppings, and stronger currents that attract larger pelagic visitors. Schools of jacks, barracuda, trevally, sweetlips, snappers, and surgeonfish patrol the reef while turtles, eagle rays, and reef sharks occasionally make appearances. Soft corals and large sea fans add vibrant color to the walls.

Kirby's Rock

Kirby's Rock is a favorite for wide-angle photography thanks to its impressive coral-covered pinnacle rising from deeper water. Dense schools of glassfish and fusiliers swirl around the reef while giant sea fans, colorful soft corals, and healthy hard coral colonies provide habitat for numerous reef species. The site offers an excellent combination of scenic reef diving and macro opportunities.

Sombrero Island

Named for its distinctive hat-shaped island, Sombrero offers some of the clearest water in the region. Divers can explore steep reef slopes covered in hard corals, large barrel sponges, sea fans, and vibrant reef fish. Currents can bring in schools of jacks, tuna, and other pelagic species, while macro enthusiasts will still find nudibranchs, shrimp, and cryptic reef inhabitants.

Beatrice Rock

This offshore pinnacle rises from deep water and is known for excellent fish life and colorful reef structure. Strong currents can produce exciting encounters with schooling jacks, trevally, barracuda, and tuna while the reef itself supports healthy coral growth, giant sea fans, turtles, and numerous macro subjects tucked into the cracks and crevices.

Cathedral Rock

One of Anilao's most recognizable dive sites, Cathedral features dramatic rock formations surrounding a large cross placed beneath the surface. Beautiful coral growth, schools of reef fish, turtles, and frequent macro sightings make this a favorite for photographers and recreational divers alike.
